Franka M. Gabler

Lives in the Sierra Nevada foothills, and works in Fresno, CA

“Developing a connection with a place is a key for Franka to make meaningful photographs – getting familiar with its moods, searching for intimate scenes and hidden compositions, looking beyond the obvious... exploring. There is always more to discover, which keeps her inspiration going.”

Franka M. Gabler has been drawing her inspiration from subtle, moody, often intimate landscapes – compositions somewhere between detail/abstract and the wider view, beyond a mere record of a particular location. Such compositions allow for extracting unique scenes from otherwise well-known places, and often stimulate a viewer to think further.

Franka strives to depict mood and to evoke emotions with her photographs – capturing the essence of the scene and how it made her feel. The light and atmosphere in her photographs create sentimental and ethereal feeling. Photographing in misty and foggy conditions allows for making interesting compositions and interpretations by concealing distracting elements and revealing the essence.
