Juergen Vespermann

Photographer, Spectrum Gallery Member

“The images capture a perspective that transcends the building itself, focusing in on the most intriguing details.”

Juergen Vespermann has been a long-time member of Fresno’s Spectrum Gallery and has participated in numerous one-person and group shows throughout Germany and California.

Photographic assignments have included photographing an industrial facility for a German oil company and his photograph “Not a Bullet Hole” was selected for the CD cover of the band “Dead Season.” He specializes in black and white architectural photography and enjoys travelling the world. His travel companion, the ‘Pink Panther,’ joins him on most of his trips.

The majority of the large prints on canvas focus on his favorite subject, black and white architecture. Juergen likes bringing details of architecture and man-made objects to the surface, emphasizing visual lines and forms.  Most of his photos are very abstract, usually too detailed to recognize the actual building. It keeps the viewer guessing.  Which way is up and which way is down? Have I seen this building before? The images capture a perspective that transcends the building itself, focusing in on the most intriguing details. It is exciting to discover the accidental combination of individual elements created, when viewing these structures and trying to further reduce these objects to details, playing with the lines, geometrical figures, shades and contrast. An advantage of photographing architecture is that the subject hardly ever moves or complaints and you can take your time, rarely disturbing anybody, not having to ask for permission…

This exhibition is presented by the Fresno Yosemite International Airport Arts & Culture program, which aims to welcome travelers to the Central Valley and showcase original works by artists who call this vibrant and diverse region home.
