Airport Announces New Food Truck Program With a Local Twist

Fresno Yosemite International Airport Announces

New Food Truck Program With a Local Twist

Fresno, CA A new food truck program has arrived at Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) to accommodate late-night passengers and guests with additional food options provided by local vendors in the surrounding area.  Each food truck will serve their specialty menu items outside of FAT’s terminal in Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved travel-ready containers to enjoy prior to boarding flights or to carry onboard the aircraft for an in-flight meal.  Food trucks will operate daily from 8:00 p.m. until the last flight departure.

“As our airport expands and we welcome a record number of visitors passing through, our food options should also grow. We know how important it is to grab a bite to eat before taking off, especially on late-night flights,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer. “We want to provide the best possible experience for travelers, and what better way than with local food trucks!”

Airports teamed up with community partner Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation (FAHF) to reach out to food truck vendors for this unique and limited two-year airport concession program to operate at FAT. This temporary program provides more food options during terminal construction and prior to new concessions coming online in 2025. Los Mexicanos Frutas y Antojos and Tacos Tepa will be the first food trucks to operate at FAT.

A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process invited qualified and experienced food truck vendors to submit packages for review.  The RFQ process included a community outreach component with in-person and virtual meetings with vendors to familiarize respondents with the application process for a complete package submission.

“This city has some of the best food trucks in the Central Valley,” said Councilmember Tyler Maxwell. “As we watch our airport grow at a record rate, it’s our priority to accommodate the thousands of families traveling to Fresno every day. The addition of food trucks to the airport will help ensure our late-night flyers receive a warm and delicious Fresno welcome.”

“Fresno Yosemite International Airport is excited to bring this new food truck concept that is unique and provides passengers with additional food offerings while exposing local vendors to operating their businesses in an airport environment,” said Director of Aviation Henry Thompson. “We appreciate our partnership with the Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation for their support with outreach efforts to area vendors to create a program that incorporates the popularity of food trucks within our community and the appeal of local culinary favorites.”

“As we mark our 20th anniversary serving our community, we find immense satisfaction in assisting the small businesses participating in the Mobile Eats initiative at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport,” said Dora Westerlund, CEO & President, Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation. “Guiding these entrepreneurs every step of the way, we enabled them to establish operations at the airport. The Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation is profoundly grateful for the trust bestowed upon us by the local small business community and our valued partners.”

Each food truck submission was evaluated based on RFQ criteria and those vendors who qualified may have the opportunity to participate in FAT’s food truck vendor program during this limited term program.  Approved vendors will operate at FAT through a Permit to Operate on a rotating schedule with no more than two trucks onsite for a maximum term of six months.  After six months, a new food truck vendor will begin their term to provide food services.
