Fresno Yosemite International Airport Announces New Nonstop Service to León, Mexico

Fresno, CA (October 31, 2019) –  Low-cost airline Volaris now offers nonstop flights between Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) and León, Mexico (BJX).  A ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, October 29 with Volaris passengers, the Consulate of Mexico in Fresno and the Secretary of Tourism for the State of Guanajuato celebrated the inaugural flight. The introduction of twice weekly flights to León, located in the Guanajuato state in the Bajío region, adds a popular tourism destination and expands a third gateway from California’s Central Valley to the Mexico region in addition to the existing routes to Guadalajara and Morelia.

In support of cross-promoting tourism between Central California and the State of Guanajuato, the Fresno/Clovis Convention & Visitors Bureau, Visalia Convention & Visitors Bureau and Visit Yosemite Madera County collaborated to host the Secretary of Tourism for the State of Guanajuato and travel agents who will be booking trips to the Central California region. The Secretary and travel agents arrived on the inaugural León flight to spend some time exploring the region including visits to Sequoia and Kings Canyon Parks, Yosemite National Park and other area attractions.

“We appreciate the Central California tourism organizations for packaging an exciting itinerary to welcome our guests from the State of Guanajuato,” said Director of Aviation Kevin Meikle. “These efforts clearly align with our shared purpose to promote Central California as a must-see destination by expanding tourism connections with the international travel industry.”

Local travel representatives departed on the inaugural flight for a similar tourism experience in the State of Guanajuato.  During their visit, the group will explore the many tourism and cultural activities offered in the region.
