Fresno Yosemite International Airport Reaches All-Time Record With Over 2.4 Million Passengers Served in 2023

Historic year with a 12 percent increase generated by added flights and seat capacity

Fresno, CA (January 29, 2023) Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) today announced historic passenger volume of over 2.4 million passengers served in Calendar Year 2023, representing a more than 12% increase compared to Calendar Year 2022, which served 2.1 million passengers. In addition to strong passenger growth, construction on a major and historic terminal expansion is in process to meet current and future travel demands for California’s Central Valley.

“The continued growth of Fresno Yosemite International Airport is a point of pride for our city, and these numbers show that investment in our airport is working,” said City of Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer. “I’m thankful to the millions of passengers who have flown through Fresno, and I’m looking forward to continued momentum and even more new passengers in 2024.”

Solid international passenger volumes continue to outpace prior years. In 2023, a total of 322,922 passengers traveled between Fresno Yosemite International Airport and Mexico, representing a nearly 4% increase compared to 2022.

“Our ongoing terminal expansion is crucial for accommodating the growing demand for domestic and international travel at Fresno Yosemite International Airport,” said Director of Aviation Henry Thompson. “We are committed to providing convenient travel experiences for our passengers while also supporting the additional economic growth of the region.”

2023 Air Service and Airport Highlights 

  • Annual passenger levels year-over-year grew by approximately 12.26% from 2,181,791 passengers in 2022 to 2,449,418 passengers in 2023.
  • Groundbreaking in May on the largest airport development program in FAT’s history, including a new concourse wing, expanded passenger screening checkpoint, a new Federal Inspection Station for international arrivals with an added waiting area for friends and family.
  • Awarded new Food & Beverage and News & Convenience agreements gaining reimagined concession offerings.
  • Cargo transported through FAT in 2023 totaled nearly 24 million pounds.

2024 FAT Air Service Preview

Added capacity through FAT planned later this year include:

  • Return of daily United Airlines seasonal nonstop service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) beginning in May.
  • New daily nonstop flights to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) with Delta Airlines launching in June.
  • New Saturday nonstop service to Dallas Love Field (DAL) with Southwest Airlines starting in June.
  • Increased frequency to Las Vegas (LAS) on Southwest Airlines to four daily flights from three starting in March and representing a 25% increase in capacity.
