Fresno Yosemite International Airport Seeks Artists for Parking Garage Public Art
Fresno, CA – Fresno Yosemite International Airport is partnering with the Fresno Arts Council to assist with procuring a public art piece to enhance the new parking garage and welcome travelers.
The new structure’s façade provides a blank canvas on which to create a visual representation of Fresno. One that is iconic and captures the cultural diversity and spirit of California’s Central Valley. A Call to Artists soliciting proposals from artists throughout the state of California seeks to create a public art piece such as a painted mural, sculpture or mosaic tile installation that reflects “you have arrived in Fresno”. A review panel will narrow submissions and choose the final art to represent a statement piece that is uniquely Fresno.
“A new public art piece at Fresno Yosemite International Airport celebrating our community and region will be enjoyed by the nearly 2 million annual travelers that pass through our airport and their friends and family who arrive to greet them,” said Director of Aviation Henry Thompson. “We value our partnership with the Fresno Arts Council and their expertise in helping us procure a unique art piece that will insert life into the parking structure and transform the space.”
“This partnership between Fresno Yosemite International Airport and the Fresno Arts Council will create a beautiful and unique visual statement about Fresno. It is amazing to see these types of investments continuing to be made in Fresno; art plays a critical role in building vibrant communities, beautifying them, and helping attract people to Fresno. We are thrilled to be able to be part of establishing a one-of-a-kind art piece that will represent Fresno to existing community members and those visiting,” said Lillia G. Chavez, Executive Director of Fresno Arts Council.
